Song of the Day #14: Hold the Line

Great song with a radical video. Reminds me of being 9 and playing with Ninja Turtles.

Last night Major Lazer (Diplo & Switch) played in Hong Kong at Volar and were hosted by DJ Enso and Kid Fresh. Must have been fun!!

Song of the Day #13: I Had a Bird

This song is by Mark and Casey, collectively known as Catastrophic Neon Rainbow. Casey is the first daughter of the first girl I fell in love with (Jackie) and Mark is her father. It's rainy day music and I like it because it sounds like almost nothing else.

Song of the Day #12: Boards of Canada

I remember first getting into Boards of Canada around 2003 when at Miami WMC with Esfand. He'd listen to Music Has the Right to Children in the hotel room and take his earbuds out to tell me how awesome it was. Over and over. I'm glad he did.

Check out this outstanding BoC music video which was was reassembled from old documentary footage.

Song of the Day #10: Gene Farris

Gene Farris - Visions of the Future (Roy Davis Jr. Remix)

This was one of the tracks that got me into DJ'ing. I heard it on a DJ Dan mixtape called Beats 4 Freaks (I rocked the cassette mixtapes in my 1988 Lincoln Towncar when I was 18) and searched for this song on vinyl for years. Literally, I searched for years. I never found it. This was one of those that "got away". Slipped right through my fingers.

It's minimal and funky at the same time. Great dance track that carries a really infectious groove. Of all the filtered French-style house music, this is a timeless classic that any true house head recognizes.

Song of the Day #10: Ice Cube

I woke up this morning and put on a pair of jeans I haven't worn since last winter - and as soon as I get them on, I feel something in the front right pocket. Reach inside and 300 yuan (almost $50) comes out. As soon as my eyeballs focused on the 3 rolled up bills, this song played in my head:

IQ Test Says I’m a Word Warrior

Of all warriors, that has to be the weakest.

I took an online IQ test at the behest of Nibirutech. Evidently they subject all of their prospective partners and employees to such a test and use the results to gauge the mental capacity of applicants. The test was more fun than I thought and a lot of the English questions seemed like they'd be a little easy for native English speakers. Anyway, here are the results:

Here's where you can take the test if you have interest: TestQ. Unfortunately they held my test results captive until I registered for an account on the site which I have no interest in using again.
